Windows 2012 Hosting with ASPHostPortal.com :: The Best New Feature in Windows 10

clock April 9, 2015 06:30 by author Mark

Microsoft just announced that the upcoming Windows 9 will, in fact, be called Windows 10. Crazy days. So let's pull out 10 of the very best new features from Microsoft's upcoming Windows XP killer.
The Windows 10 release date is slated for "mid-next year" as we previously estimated. There was no confirmation as per the rumour that Windows 9 might end up being free. Starting tomorrow Microsoft will start distributing a Technical Preview build of Windows 10 via the Windows Insider Program.

1. There's loads of stuff for touch, but it's different stuff

Designed to appeal to experts and novices alike, Microsoft was at pains to point out that it hasn't given up on touch with the new OS. The Charms bar remains for the moment although we expect it to die if you're using a non-touch PC (check out Continum below).
Microsoft says it wants to support touch users who have persevered with Windows 8 and "evolve" the touch UI. (Translated: That means it is changing quite a bit.) The task switching will no longer work on the left. So with that and the charms going, that's goodbye to most of the problem with Windows 8 - and a whole philosophy down the pan.
Microsoft's Joe Belfiore said at the preview: "We want Windows 7 users to feel like they upgraded from a [Toyota] Prius to a Tesla, but they don't need to learn a new way to drive."

2. It's BACK!

As we've covered before, the e most noticeable change is the new Start Menu, which looks somewhat like the old start menu. It brings some features from the Windows 8.1 Start Screen, such as live tiles, and can be resized.

3. Another new Task View (the Windows 8 flippy thing has gone)

Now the Windows 8 task switcher has been unceremoniously dumped, there's a new Task View in Windows 10, too, so users can switch between virtual desktops. That'sause Microsoft now recognises that novice users use the taskbar rather than switching in other, cleverer, ways such as Alt+Tab (which also now switches between desktops).

4. Snap Assist helps you snap windows

A new Snap Assist feature also helps users work out which way is best to snap apps to. You can snap windows into new screens and tile Windows - just as you've been able to since Windows 2.0 or maybe 3.0.

5. The Command Prompt enters the 21st Century

Another quite amazing feature for those of us that use it is that the command prompt is now getting keyboard shortcuts! So you will be able to paste in your commands! Hardly groundbreaking, but actually pretty exciting.

6. Improvements to Windows Explorer

A new Home location is the new default view in Windows Explorer. There's also a Share button on the Windows Explorer taskbar (we really hope this is in the context menu, too).

7. Continum - the special one

This is the best new thing we found out today. Continum is an on-the-fly mode for 2 in 1 devices that can automatically change mode if it detects there is suddenly no keyboard attached. So, for example, a back button appears to help you navigate the Desktop with touch if the keyboard is removed. We reckon the charms will also disappear in non-touch mode, although we've heard conflicting news about that.

8. Windows 10 Universal apps

Windows 10 will also usher in a new app model - Universal Windows apps. Windows Universal apps are the new name for Metro apps/Modern apps/Windows Store apps. Take your pick on those old monikers, they've got a new one! Presumably (although we don't know as yet) that these will also work on Windows Phone. Windows 10 will be able to run on all devices from phones to servers and there will be a single app store across the lot.
All older Windows Store apps will work with Windows 10.

9. Modern (sorry, Universal) apps now float on the Desktop

The new Universal apps also work on the desktop and 'float' in their own Windows. Microsoft wants to banish the separation between the Modern UI and the Desktop.
These 'modern' apps on the desktop have a icon for more options - replacing the commands that used to be in the charms on the right-hand side of the screen.

10. Windows 10 has lots for Business and Enterprise

Microsoft says it hopes to appeal to business with this release of Windows, more so than Windows 8 ever did. Belfiore said they were "starting the dialogue with businesses today".
To be honest, it needs to - Windows XP is now ancient and unsupported, while precious other businesses want to make the leap away from Windows 7. But part of the reason why Microsoft is demonstrating the OS without all the consumer features is to show enterprises what the OS is capable of at this stage.
This version of Windows will have plenty of other features for enterprise, including a customised store and protection for corporate data. Mobile Device Management will be able to be used for all devices.

clock March 25, 2015 05:36 by author Mark

Hi guys today I will explains How to Upgrade From Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Ok let me to show you.

As we all know, Microsoft has introduced Windows 10 for its user, but it is still not finished and does not yet contain all the features that will make it more reliable and powerful for users. There is a question in everyone's mind of whether Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Microsoft users or will there be a charge. So people are waiting for it eagerly. We know that Windows 10 will run on a set of devices, these devices have various sizes of screens. I think the Windows 10 update might be free because Microsoft wants to make it the best platform or operating system for its users.

Upgrade Windows 8.1 into Windows 10

Step 1

The first step is to download Windows 10 from the link Windows 10 Setup. When you click on this link you will see a window with an option to get started as in the following picture.

Step 2

Here you will see a button Get started. When you click on this button then another window is opened just as in the picture. In this window you have a button named join now.

Step 3

When you have clicked on this join now button a window is opened. Here this window prompts for your Microsoft account to download Windows 10. So please enter your valid email id and the password to proceed further.

Step 4

After a successful login you will connect to a download link for Windows 10. Now download Windows 10 from here. When your download is complete save this setup in to the your DVD or in the USB. Insert your USB or DVD in which your setup is available in your system, when you insert it you will see a window like this. Now click on the run to do the setup.

When you have clicked on the run setup, your setup will be run and you will see a window like this.

Step 5

This preparing window will run from one percent to a hundred percent, it requires some time to complete. You will have a new window, that window is the license window, here are some rules and regulations related to Windows 10, simply click on the I accept the license term and click on the accept button, the window look like this:

When you click on the accept button you will see a new window. The name of this window is Getting Updates, it is just like the given picture. Getting Updates checks all the updates that are available in Windows 10 then proceeds further.

Step 6

When all the updates have been found successfully using Getting Updates, you will get a window with a message saying we're getting a few things ready. The window requires some time but then you will get a new window with a new message saying Making sure you're ready to install. This window will look like this.

When this window completes it will automatically show a new window. Here you will see a message saying What needs you attention. In that window you have an OK button. Just click on this button to proceed to the next steps.

Step 7

After performing the preceding procedure we will get a new window, in this window we will see a message ready to install, here click on the install button. This window is like the picture given below.

When you click on the install button your window will install and you will get a message as in following picture. This will also run from zero percent to a hundred percent so it also might require some time. One thing to note there is that during this process your PC will we restarted many times.

Step 8

When this installation goes to one hundred percent, your system will be restarted and then you will have new window with a Windows icon that will sho the setting up percentage, this percentage is also running from one to one hundred percent, this new window looks as in the following picture.

After completing the setting up process, a new process will start. Here the process name is Getting devices ready, the getting devices ready step checks the availability of hardware. This window looks as in the following picture. This process is also going on from one to one hundred percent.

After completing the getting device ready process a new window appears, Apply PC setting. This is also a percentage based process going from one percent to one hundred percent. After completing set up a few more things also must be done.

Step 9

Now your system will be restarted and then you will see a window. That window shows the settings. Here there are two options, one is to use express settings and another is to customize settings, here I use the express settings, the window looks like this.

After clicking on the use express settings we will see a window that asks for a Microsoft account. Here you have the option to use an old account or you can create a new account. Here I go with my old Microsoft account.

When we click on the create a new Microsoft account we will see this window.

Step 10

Now nearly everyting is done. After this your system will be restarted and you will see a window like this automatically. This window changes its color many times during the process. Here some apps are installed automatically that are available with Windows 10.

After completing this you will see the message Let's Start.

Step 11

This is the final step. Here you will see your Windows 10 Desktop. As you know, one new thing in Windows 10 is that now must use the Start menu in Windows 10. So here the Start menu is available for you. So finally you get the window like this.

Now you can enjoy Windows 10 on your PC.

Summary

As we know, Microsoft users have been waiting for Windows 10 very eagerly. In this article I provided the procedure for upgrading your Windows 8 to Windows 10. I hope this procedure will be helpful for those that want to upgrade their Windows 8 to Windows 10. One thing to note is that the upgrade is available only for one year after the final release of the the Windows 10. I hope this article will be useful for the readers.

Windows 2012 Hosting :: Introduction Dynamic Access Control 2012

clock September 2, 2013 12:09 by author Ben

Do you know what is Dynamic Access Control??
Microsoft Dynamic Access Control (DAC) is a data governance tool in Windows Server 2012 that lets administrators control access settings. DAC uses centralized policies to let administrators review who has access to individual files. Files can be manually or automatically classified.

Windows Server 2012 Dynamic Access Control basically organize information automatically on file servers in order to meet business needs and regulatory requirements .

With the use of technology in the DAC classification , organization or company can identify or provide " tags " or labels to files on the file server . This capability to control access to files that were tagged through centralized access policies , perform audits and related reporting events related to access or attempts to access , use RMS ( Rights Management Services ) to encrypt Office documents so that the documents safe when the data out of the file server .

A number of the features found in Windows Server 2012 that are beneficial to the administrator in this regard :

  •     File owner , or the owner can directly provide information " tags " or labels to their own information , so do not need to be done by the administrator .
  •     Apply to the central access policy files ( information ) that has been in the " tag " or label given
  •     Provide " access denied remediation " when the user can not access the information .
  •     Configure the central audit trail records policies for information access ( access logs ) that can later be used for analysis and forensic needs .
  •     Protect certain sensitive information to the protection of the RMS automatically.

Label or tag used to identify the protected file can be used to classify files in logic . In Windows Server 2012 , this label can be applied in four ways :

  •     Based on location . When files are stored on a file server , the file inherits the label of its parent folder .
  •     Manually . Users and administrators can manually file labeling .
  •     Automatic . Files can be automatically labeled based on content or other characteristics .
  •     With the application , using the API for labeling file maintained by the application .

Windows Cloud Server Hosting :: Why Choose Windows Cloud Server?

clock May 6, 2013 05:52 by author Ben

The web hosting industry has evolved greatly in the last few years. One standout feature of this industry has been the emergence of new types of web hosting plans. Cloud Hosting is one such hosting plan that is being discussed by everyone in the web industry. It is the newest web hosting plan available in the market that has various new exciting features. So let us find out what exactly Cloud Server Hosting is and what its various benefits are.

Web hosting that is achieved using a Cloud Server set up is known as Cloud Hosting. In simple terms it is defined as a hosting plan that is carried out by several linked servers. A website that gets hosted via a Cloud Server set up has a high processing power and very little downtime as it has several servers at its disposal. This hosting plan consists of network of connected servers that provide reliable space for hosting a website. This technology is known to be highly upgradeable and expansion can be done without having many difficulties. A website can also be expanded without any major problem.

Cloud Server Hosting offers its users with several benefits. It is considered highly scalable and economical for a user. The scalability feature allows the user to expand his website without facing problems regarding lack of space. It also prevents a website from any type of server crash, as the website gets hosted from multiple linked servers. It also helps a user to cut IT costs as there is minimum downtime or service disruption. Another advantage of this hosting plan is that addition and cutting of resources can be done with great ease. The companies that offer Cloud Computing services to its customers bill their customers on the amount of computing power used by the user, just like a typical electricity bill.

This web hosting plan is often said to provide the benefits of dedicated hosting at shared hosting prices. It is largely being promoted as one of the most reasonably priced, reliable and extremely scalable service. This service has permitted business to expand and established themselves as leading organizations. When choosing a Cloud Computing provider a user is recommended to review several companies that offer this service. Doing so will help a user to make a right decision and obtain the right service provider. Hope after reading this most of your questions would have been answered.

The main advantage of cloud hosting is the reliability that comes with using a group of servers rather than just relying on one. With this form of hosting, if a server malfunctions or goes down another server can ‘step in’ and pick up the slack. With dedicated hosting if the server goes down, your website will go down with it. By using the cloud to host your website you can enjoy very high levels of uptime and almost completely minimise downtime. Using hosting in the cloud also means that businesses can have access to high quality servers and technology that they may not be able to provide otherwise.

Using cloud hosting is also advantageous in terms of bandwidth. If your site unexpectedly attracts high levels of traffic, instead of slowing the site down and reducing its performance, another server can provide extra resources. This can be especially useful for websites that have high levels of traffic in a particular month in the year, for example music festival websites often have extremely high traffic levels when the tickets are first released. Smaller businesses, in particular, can benefit from this feature of cloud web hosting as it means as their website grows their hosting plan can grow and adapt with it.

One of the main concerns that many people have with cloud web hosting is the price. However, the cost of cloud hosting has actually fallen in the past few years. Helpfully for small businesses, many companies will only charge for the amount of resources you actually use. This means that smaller websites will not have to pay extremely high rates for using numerous servers. It also benefits those who can manage their resources well. In some cases the price for cloud hosting is only slightly above the price for normal shared hosting.

Some of the advantages of cloud web hosting are also true for other web hosting options such as colocation. Not having the server/s onsite will save space and time for companies. As the servers are maintained and looked after by the hosting company, the IT team in a business will have more time to devote elsewhere. With many businesses looking to prove their ‘green’ credentials and show what they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment, cloud hosting can be very useful. As servers need to be kept at very specific temperatures in order to function properly, the energy costs for a company can be reduced if the servers are not in-house.

Cloud hosting is likely to become even more prominent in the web hosting landscape as it can be very advantageous to small and large businesses alike. The concerns about its cost are slowly being alleviated as the price for cloud web hosting schemes continues to fall. The reliability of this kind of hosting scheme is something that will interest many people as having less down-time is a priority for many businesses. Using the cloud for hosting will very likely become the norm in the next few years.

Windows 2008 Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: Tips on Windows Command Prompt

clock January 13, 2012 07:34 by author Jervis

In this article we are going to see various commands and comments which I have gathered through my experience with Windows. Surely, you may know several commands on Windows, however many people may not know all of them.

The commands that we are going to see here are based on Windows XP the most commonly used today. Also, we are going to see how to make windows command prompt more friendly.

Basic Tips on Making Windows Command Prompt Friendly

When you open a session of it (Start >> Run >> cmd), by right-clicking the title bar, you can easily set default options for it. Selecting the “Properties” Menu will pop-up the title bar to set options which will be valid for all Windows prompt.

In the tab “Options” you may choose your cursor size, number of items in the command history and editing modes, including mode off “Insert” which by default eats the letters when you type on others.

In tab “Source”, it does not needfully define the source (it supports few, the”raster fonts”), simply the number of rows and columns of the window.

You can click the tab “Layout” and choose the default position of the window (ie. fixed distance from left and top of your screen) and the tab “Colors” to change the colors of black background.

Following are few shortcuts and commands that can be used:

1. Press [ALT] Left + [ENTER]: It is used to switch between full screen and window. Also applies to programs that open full screen in the simulation environment from MS-DOS, such as many games and control programs. In this case, usually the window will be minimized, showing the desktop, and the program paused. When the windows is minimized, the simulation program in MS-DOS is not being processed, for example, a game of any other program that is minimized will be paused until the window is active.

2. File names with spaces: Never forget to enter them in quotes. The spaces are the separators of parameters to pass file names without quotation marks to point to the computer means that the shares after the new space are parameters, and not a continuation of the file name you enter.

3. In order to copy text in command prompt, you need to right-click in the window and select “Mark”. Once you select the “Mark” option, drag the mouse normally, but do take care that it selects a block of characters and not in line as usually you do in a text editor. Being with selected text, simply right-click the window again or you may press ENTER button on your keyboard. The selection will get cleared the text will be copied. Now in order to paste the text, you need to right-click and select the “Paste” option.

4. It’s a very silly tip, but worth comment. If you wish to copy everything, you may right-click and choose “Select All” option. If you want to clear out the window, simply enter “cls” command to clear the past performance on the screen.

5. Without using a mouse the Options can also be accessed through the Control menu. Just press [ALT] Left + [SPACE] and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to access the options or copy text. It is very useful when running Windows in order insurance if you have a serial mouse, since it does not load the device in safe mode.

6. To view the information about a particular command, simply enter the command: help [commandname]. Remove the brackets before entering the commands. Another way to retrieve the info about a command is to enter the command: “commandname/?”. It applies to most of the programs but not all of them.

7. If a particular command is about to complete, you can force it to stop by typing [CTRL] + [C] in the command prompt. Be cautious while using this command, as it may compromise the system or user data.

Windows 2008 Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: How to Fix - Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path

clock November 24, 2011 06:53 by author Jervis

When you are trying to connect to a "user instance" of SQL Server from your Web application running on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 and you’re getting a message that looks like this:

I will try to help you here.

Note: this error only happens if you have User Instance=true in your connection string. The IIS team made a change to the default identity of the worker process.   Starting with IIS 7.5, Application Pools run with a unique identity based on the Application Pool name, rather than NetworkService – the default identity for IIS6 and IIS7.  The primary reason for this change is to increase the security of IIS and Application Pools by default, providing a much better sandbox between Applications and other Windows services by default.

Unfortunately, the new identity does not have a user profile, and as you can see from the error, this causes the SqlClient data stack to fail.  There are a few things you can do to "fix" this error:

1) switch back to NetworkService
2) switch to a user account that has a local profile (like a real user / domain user account).  To do that, fire open IIS Manager and browse to Application Pools node for your computer.  Click on the AppPool for the application you are trying to run and select the “Advanced Settings” task (in yellow on right).  Select identity and choose NetworkService as a built-in account, or select “Custom account” and type in the user/password.

If you’re a command-line person, you can do it this way (all on one line):

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config
-section:system.applicationHost/applicationPools /[name='YOUR_APPPPOOL_NAME_HERE'].processModel.identityType:"NetworkService"
/commit:apphost

Windows 2008 Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: How to Fix Error 502 “Active FTP not Allowed”

clock July 21, 2011 07:15 by author Jervis

Consider a scenario where you have a client workstation behind Forefront TMG 2010 and you are trying to download files from a FTP Server. You are successfully able to logon on the FTP but after type the command “dir” you get the error message below:

The message is pretty clear about what is going on, isn’t it? Well, it is but where do I enable this option? I don’t remember having this on ISA!! To address this issue you just need to enable a new option that we have on TMG, this option is located on the FTP Filter properties as shown below:

After enabling this option and apply the changes you should be able to list your files just fine. It is important to mention that this setting has nothing to do with the FTP Read Only option, that you had in ISA 2004/2006 and still have it on TMG. The FTP Filter when running in read only mode (see figure below) will blocks all commands in the control channel except the following ones:

“ABOR, ACCT, CDUP, CWD /0, FEAT, HELP, LANG, LIST, MODE, NLST, NOOP, PASS, PASV, PORT, PWD /0, QUIT, REIN, REST, RETR, SITE, STRU, SYST, TYPE, USER, XDUP, XCWD, XPWD, SMNT”

You can customize this list by using the sample script below (from
Configuring Add-ins MSDN article),in this example the script configures FTP Access Filter to allow only the USER and PASS commands:

Dim root
Dim ftpFilter
Dim vpSet
On Error Resume Next
Err.Clear
Set root = CreateObject("FPC.Root")
' Get the filter's administration object
Set ftpFilter = root.GetContainingArray.Extensions.ApplicationFilters("{680A928F-22B3-11d1-B026-0000F87750CB}")
If ftpFilter Is Nothing Then
Wscript.Echo "FTP Access Filter ({680A928F-22B3-11D1-B026-0000F87750CB}) is not installed in array."
    WScript.Quit
End If
' Get the vendor parameter set containing the filter's configuration.
Set vpSet = ftpFilter.VendorParametersSets.Item("{680A928F-22B3-11D1-B026-0000F87750CB}")
'If this vendor parameters set does not exist, create it.
If vpSet Is Nothing Then
    WScript.Echo "Adding a vendor parameters set ({680A928F-22B3-11D1-B026-0000F87750CB})"
    Err.Clear
    Set vpSet = ftpFilter.VendorParametersSets.Add("{680A928F-22B3-11D1-B026-0000F87750CB}",False)
    ftpFilter.VendorParametersSets.Save
End If
' Add the required parameter.
vpSet.Value("AllowReadCommands") = "USER PASS"
vpSet.Save

Note: don’t change the default Read Only commands unless you have a real business need for that.
