SSRS 2008 Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: How to Change Reporting Services Timeout in SharePoint

clock January 10, 2011 06:36 by author Jervis

Recently someone asked me to check a Reporting Services report that always resulted in an Unexpected Error. The report server was configured for Sharepoint Integrated Mode

You need to notice Execution timeout of SharePoint. You can change this timeout setting in the web.config of your Sharepoint site, by default in
c\:inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80.

In this web.config you will find an XML node called “httpRuntime”. In this node you have to add an extra tag: executionTimeout=”9000:

<httpRuntime maxRequestLength=”51200″ executionTimeout=”9000″ />

Save and close the file and do an IISReset. When you run the report again, you won’t get this error anymore.

I also checked the web.config of the Report Manager, but in Native Mode this seems to be the default:

Good luck

Reseller Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: Save Money By Getting a Domain Hosting Reseller Web Space

clock June 11, 2010 07:27 by author Jervis

If you already have experience hosting a large web space, and are comfortable allocating smaller chunks of your web space for different purposes - and to different users, which in fact would make you even more experienced - why not think seriously about going into business reseller hosting? We recommend you to try ASPHostPortal. You can get professional hosting only with the low price. So, try it!

Getting web space is important for your business - some may even say crucial. In this era of electronics and cyber-marketing, even people in your small town rely on you to have a website that will help them become better acquainted with the services and products you have to offer. But is it possible to get web space if you're on a very tight budget? Of course it is! In fact, it's recommended that you do. If you don't have very demanding web space needs, you should start off with good domain hosting reseller web space.

What is domain hosting reseller web space, and how is this different from regular web space? Well for one thing, a reseller package is usually much cheaper than a regular hosting package. It is also usually much smaller. If, say, the smallest buyable package offered by a standard web host is 500 mb of web space, a reseller would be able to give you 200 or even just 100 mb of space, at a lower price. Resellers create flexibility in the market, and make web hosting more accessible to individuals who need to keep a close eye on our wallets.

The features available on the hosted space is also another remarkable difference. There are many different kinds of resellers, therefore it stands to reason that there will be different terms and conditions to using resold space, as well. Sometimes a reseller will not allow you access to a control panel, which you could use to tweak the settings of your web site. At other times, your reseller will not be able to grant you access to your FTP site either. It will depend on the kind of features offered by your reseller, and the agreement you will reach with your reseller regarding administrative access.

But no matter what kind of arrangement you have with your reseller, opt for maximum flexibility, seek the best value for your money. Make sure your reseller is reliable and efficient in responding to inquiries. Get a good domain hosting reseller web account. Set aside your funds for other important aspects of your business!

Community Server Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: MOSS and Community Server

clock June 11, 2010 07:19 by author Jervis

This article talk about different MOSS and Community Server. If you’re looking for Community Server and MOSS, you can always consider ASPHostPortal as the alternatives. We give our best for you.

SharePoint’s Community Features

Yes, SharePoint does have social features like blogs and wikis. They have even been working hard to provide enhanced versions of this “adequate” out of the box capability via Codeplex.

For example, we covered the Community Kit: Enhanced Blogging Edition not that long ago. In addition, you can also download the following community features for SharePoint from Codeplex:

- Enhanced Wiki
- Enhanced Discussion Board Edition
- User Group Edition (1.0)
- External Collaboration Toolkit for SharePoint (Community Edition)

Microsoft has also recently provided a peek into their potential social networking solution: TownSquare. It is currently being prototyped within Microsoft's own organization but they have announced no plans to take it public any time soon, if at all. It does demonstrate however that they are looking to improve on MOSS' out of the box collaboration and social media capabilities.

Telligent Community Server

Community Server is a .NET-based social computing platform that includes functionality such as:

- Blogs
- Forums
- File and Photo Gallery
- Support for User Generated Content
- Integrated Ratings and Comments

The latest release includes capabilities such as:

- Integration with Active Directory, Exchange and SharePoint
- Enterprise level reporting of community activity
- Social Streams or Activity Feeds
- Integration with Amazon S3 for storage
- On demand groups/social circles
- Widgets that enable the sharing of data between applications
- A complete Web Services API based on REST for integration/expansion of the platform

SharePoint / Community Server Integration - It's Not New

Lawrence Liu, Senior Technical Product Manager for Community and Social Computing at Microsoft told us that the “Platform + Partners” approach is directly related to Microsoft's success overall and that they continue to leverage that model for SharePoint/MOSS in the social computing space.

“By working with our named partners in the Social Computing space, customers have the option to acquire additional functionality if they need it today to address their business needs. While we will continue to invest in improving SharePoint as a Business Productivity Platform in our future releases, we will also significantly enhance SharePoint’s Social Computing features and capabilities.”

The integration of Telligent's Community Server with SharePoint is an interesting one — particularly in terms of the history of the integration.

Integration Pre-Community Server 2008
Prior to the latest release of the product, there was a lot of buzz about the integration of Community Server with SharePoint. Microsoft Partners out there, SharePoint Solutions and SharePoint Works specifically, were both offering consulting service solutions that integrated Community Server 2007 with SharePoint.

It was only back in March that SharePoint Solutions announced their integration solution that included a common look and feel and shared mechanism for security. According to the company, they announced their solution at the time when there appeared to be no interest by Telligent to integrate the two products.

Unfortunately, and likely a result of Telligent's announcement, SharePoint Solution's service offering never took off and they have no implementations to date. You can't even find the service offering on their website.

Integration with Community Server 2008
With Community Server 2008, Telligent has taken notice of the sales potential of the product duo. CMSWire had the opportunity to ask Rob Howard, the Telligent CEO, a few questions on this new integration solution. According to Howard, there were many independent solutions for building an integrated community when they built their product back in 2004. Today though, businesses want fewer vendors and integrated technology.

“We’re now applying that same philosophy to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Customers want simplicity, and Office SharePoint Server 2007 is becoming the platform of choice behind the firewall. But at the same time, SharePoint is also missing functionality in some core social computing areas. And that is value that we add … and what customers are demanding. Our belief remains that building an integrated platform is ultimately better for customers.”

How Community Server is Integrated with MOSS

Community Server 2008 is also able to utilize the same security mechanisms that SharePoint uses — Active Directory and Forms-based Authentication being the two most popular. This enables them to tightly integrate their security model, moving seamlessly between the two platforms, based on a common security platform.

In addition, Community Server 2008 provides an email gateway that allows Outlook users to participate in certain community activities without having to leave the coziness of their email client.

Of course, no integration is complete without the development of a number of SharePoint WebParts. In this case:

- Feature and Solution Deployment: Administrators can select what Community Server functionality they want deployed within SharePoint
- Web Parts: Web parts that contain Community Server functionality such as blogs, social streams and more
- Web Part Pages: Complete end-to-end Community Server “experience”
- Event Receivers: Enables List and Document Libraries activities to be included in Community Server social streams
- Search:SharePoint searches will include content stored directly in Community Server

Telligent's Official Release Information for the Integration

So it all looks good and very promising. We asked when it would be officially released as the talk has been going on for quite awhile now.

“We have a preview out now of the SharePoint integration. We’ll have a beta out in August of the new Community Server Evolution platform, and we will officially release soon thereafter. Evolution is a version of Community Server that has been tailored specifically for behind the firewall and goes much deeper than just Office SharePoint Server 2007—it integrates with Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and SharePoint. It’s all about bringing Community Server behind the firewall and truly integrating with our customers’ IT environments.”

Of course, we were also curious how much this integration software will cost organizations.

“We’re still working on that. It will definitely be a per-seat license, probably around $50/seat annually. Pricing will scale for volume licenses, and that is the part we’re working on. We’ve already had several organizations with 3,000+ seats starting the conversation.”

You'll also notice that the price of the Professional Edition of Community Server has almost doubled with the new version. According to Howard the answer is “Simple, a change of focus. We’re focusing better on where the market is for this product. Community Server is best for organizations that are supporting decent-sized communities. We introduced another product earlier this year — Graffiti CMS — that is targeted more at small- to medium-sized businesses and is priced much more aggressively.”

Microsoft's View of the Community Server Integration

The integration is a smart move by Telligent. SharePoint is the dominant collaboration and document management platform inside many organizations — particularly those orgs with a Microsoft predisposition. For Telligent to offer a solution that integrates tightly around security and more will encourage these organizations to look to them first for their social media needs.

What does Microsoft say about all this? They love it, of course. According to Lawrence Liu:

“Community Server is used by many organizations (including Microsoft) as a online community solution with blogs and forums as the primary features. More and more of these organizations are using SharePoint for a variety of information management and collaboration scenarios. While SharePoint’s blogs and forums features are sufficient for some of these organizations, others would like to leverage their investments in Community Server but provide a seamlessly integrated user experience on SharePoint.”

Is the match made in heaven? For Microsoft and Telligent it is. With that said, it's less clear what it's going to do to the smaller/other Microsoft Partners such as SharePoint Solutions. But then Community Server is Telligent's baby and Microsoft's belle of the ball. The rest of the field will just have to adapt.

MOSS Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: Introduction to Business Data Catalog

clock May 24, 2010 08:32 by author Jervis

Business Data Catalog (BDC) is a “new business integration feature available in Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007. It is a shared service and it enables MOSS 2007 to surface business data from back-end server applications without any coding.”

ASPHostPortal
is a premiere web hosting provider, proudly support the reliable yet affordable MOSS 2007 hosting. The cost to host MOSS 2007 is priced at $10.00/month only. This great opportunity is provided for all our new and existing customers.

The following article explains about one of the best features of MOSS 2007, Business Data Catalog.

Why BDC?

All the data entered into the Sharepoint system gets stored in the content database of that particular Sharepoint application. So by default, a Sharepoint site will get information from its content database. But it is quite natural for an organization to have information stored in multiple databases by numerous applications throughout the organization. For example, inventory software stores its data in a database that is different from a CRM software storing data in a database. But people will find is extremely useful if provided with a space where they can have every bit of information from each and every department in the organization ranging from the up-to-minute logistics information to the up-to-date sales analysis. The BDC feature of Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007 provides the needed business integration for integrating the line of business (LOB) applications with the Sharepoint.

What is BDC?

Business Data Catalog provides built in support for displaying data from two data sources.
- Databases
- Web Services

Microsoft promises a “no coding” approach for integrating LOB applications with Sharepoint. Business Data Catalog provides access to the data sources through a metadata model that provides a consistent and simplified client object model. So it is the metadata authors who describe the API of the business applications in xml. After this, the administrators will associate this metadata with the Sharepoint application after which the LOB data is available in the Sharepoint system.

MOSS Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: Introduction to Shared Services Provider

clock May 22, 2010 04:51 by author Jervis

ASPHostPortal is a premiere web hosting provider that supports the reliable and low cost MOSS hosting plan. In this article, we will discuss about Shared Services Provider, one of the most important features of MOSS 2007.

The first two questions you may be faced with are:
- What are Shared Services Providers (SSP)?
- Why do I have a Shared Services Administration section in Central Administration with a SharedServices1 entry?

What are Shared Services Providers (SSP)?

MOSS can be used to create and host a number of web applications, for example an Intranet, Extranet, Team Site, etc. These applications may typically require similar information such as user profile information from say Active Directory or LDAP but there are two caveats that lead to the need for SSP:

- You may not want some information to cross between web applications (for example you may not want member of an Extranet to be able to access information from the Intranet).

- Your MOSS may be public Internet facing (or close to it) and you don’t want to expose any sensitive back-end functionality.

Shared Services Providers act as more than an intermediary between web applications and sensitive services such as Active Directory and LDAP. By creating a Shared Services Provider (SSP) you can create an interface, or a mediator, that retrieves the information you need from the sensitive service and places it in a database for query by the appropriately authorized web applications.

The immediate question might be why can’t these applications talk to Active Directory – they could but you may be duplicating effort, taking a performance hit on the back-end and require over complicated security mechanisms to ensure minimal exposure to sensitive services.

Clicking on Shared Services Administration will bring you up with a Manage this Shared Services section where you can do several things.

You could create a new SSP, change the default if you have several (for example you may decide you have more Extranet users than internal users so make that the default). You can also restore a previously saved SSP from a backup. Additionally, you can Change the Association between Applications and SSP. For example you may have a number of SharePoint applications each serving different purposes – use this option to tell each application which SSP to use.

This area of administration simply allows you to create the framework for the SSP, you will manage it separately (such as where to get the information from) from its own administrative interface.

Why does an SSP exist already?

Once an SSP is configured you need to manage it from its own administration centre by clicking on its name in the sidebar. This URL will also be shown in the Edit Properties section of the SSP.

Typically you will have just one entry listed under Shared Services Administration unless your want to maintain clear boundaries, for example an Extranet or if you operate separate companies on the same server.

MOSS Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: ASP to MOSS

clock May 21, 2010 05:53 by author Jervis

If you search more information about SharePoint, you can choose ASPHostPortal as alternatives. In this article below, we only discuss brief information about SharePoint. So, we really recommend you to try ASPHostPortal. The price start from $ 5.00/month. We guarantee you’ll get the best service with reasonable price.

Introduction

We are already have a number of ASP .Net Web
Applications consisting web forms, user controls, business layer, and data access layer, Many times a need arises to add this web application to a SharePoint site.

This article discusses different/various ways of integrating aspx pages of a web application to a SharePoint site.

The main advantages of this approach are:

- Business users and end users need not go to a separate web application URL(All those pages can be seen within the SharePoint site itself.
- Once the integration is done, the SharePoint site’s security and access rules i.e. Authentication and Authorization (is) are in place without any additional work.

Solutions

1. Custom Built Web Parts

A good use of web parts would be where you want to build a widget/mini-application that could be put on many/different web part pages across sites.

With this option you need to build your UI using the Web Part framework, where your logic can be within other .Net assemblies or in a web service, just like in any other .Net application.

Pros:
- Built using ASP.Net Web Part framework
- Deployed via “Web Part install package” or the “new Feature/Solution Deployment” mechanism
- SharePoint application provides hosting framework for putting these Web Parts on Web Part pages
- Communications framework for talking with/to other Web Parts
- Designed to be highly re-usable across many sites with minimal effort

Cons:
- No drag and drop UI functionality for laying out your UI i.e. no design time surface
- A framework that developers must learn to work within.
- Developing many web parts is not feasible and also raises performance issues.

2. User Controls and the SmartPart

In this method the developer can develop/create a user control and drop it in the smart part. This method is similar to creating web parts but here the developer has the privilege of drag-drop functionality This approach has the limitations of custom built web parts

The application UI can be built using ASP.Net user controls or by converting the aspx and aspx.cs pages to user controls, and then use SmartPart to deliver these User Controls via a web part

The Son of SmartPart is a Web Part that is able to "host" an ASP.Net 2.0 User Control.

Pros:
- Simple development experience.
- You get a design surface to build you UI
- Deployment is reasonably straight forward
- Can use Web Part connection framework if desired

Cons:
- Deployment not managed via Solution deployment mechanism Out of the Box (you could build a solution to deploy the Son of Smart Part)
- Slightly different deployment of User Control files and assemblies (a .bat file can be used for easy deployment) during development.

3. _Layouts Folder Approach:

Using _layouts based application is the best approach when you want to extend every site with some functionality such as additional administrative pages.

A _layouts application is when you develop an ASP.Net Web Application and deploy it to the location c:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\template\layout. This is a special directory that gets "virtualized" in each SharePoint site i.e. in each SharePoint site you will have a /_layouts path from the root of the web.

E.g. http://servername//sites/sitename/_layouts.
This means that you can make your application available under each SharePoint site e.g. http://servername/sites/sitename/_layouts/MyApp/SomePage.aspx

In fact this is how all the SharePoint administration pages are delivered in each site.

Pros:
- Great way to make your functionality available in every site
- Context sensitive access to the SharePoint object model. Great for doing work on the site that the user happens to be working in at the time.

Cons:

- Master Page integration is possible, but you need to make changes to each aspx page.
- Deployment not managed via Solution deployment mechanism.
- The pages can be accessed from any site existing on that server farm.
- The pages don’t inherit the security and access rules from SharePoint.

4. ASPX pages added to SharePoint Site

This option allows you to add your ASP.Net application pages into your SharePoint Site.  It also provides for compiling all the code behind of your pages into a DLL. In a nutshell this option allows you to build your ASP.Net application outside of SharePoint, build it, test it & then add it to SharePoint.

Here is how to do it:

1. Install the Visual Studio 2005 Web Application Projects extension.  This gives you the 'old style' web    projects in Visual Studio, so you can compile down to a single DLL

2. START -> File -> New Project -> ASP.NET Web Application - Name it "ASPtoSP"

3. Add reference to Microsoft. SharePoint

4. In the Solution Explorer create a folder “~masterurl” and add master page “default.Master” inside it

5. Replace code behind for the master with:

using System;

using Microsoft.SharePoint;

namespace ASPtoSp._masterurl

{

          public partial class_default : System.Web.UI.MasterPage

          {

          protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

         {

         }

         }

}

6. In the designer, rename ContentPlaceHolder's ID to "PlaceHolderMain"

7. Delete Default.aspx, and add new page – “SamplePage.aspx”

After adding all your files right click on the project in solution explorer and choose convert to web application project. This will create partial class for all your aspx pages i.e. designer.cs.

8. Replace source content with the following:

<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~masterurl/default.master" CodeBehind="SamplePage.aspx" Inherits="ASPtoSP.SamplePage" Title="Untitled Page" %>

<asp:Content ID="Content5" ContentPlaceHolderID="PlaceHolderMain" runat="server">

Testing Page...

<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label>

</asp:Content>

NOTE:
we have to change the Inherits attribute to add the assembly name. For example, if the namespace is 'SampleSiteNamespace' and the assembly name that the page uses for code-behind is SampleWebSiteAssembly, then we set Inherits="SampleSiteNamespace.SampleWebSiteAssembly", and this assembly must be in the bin of the SharePoint site

Give the namespace as ASPtoSP to both aspx.cs and designer.cs file.

9. Project properties -> Build -> Output path:

Point it to \BIN folder of our SharePoint Web application.

E.g. C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\moss.litwareinc.com80\bin

You can also manually copy your projects DLL into the \BIN folder each time.

10. Compile your project.

11. Open the web.config file for the SharePoint Web Application

E.g. C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\moss.litwareinc.com80\web.config

12. Add the following line to the SafeControls section (change to suit your assembly and namespace

<SafeControl Assembly=”ASPtoSP” Namespace=”ASPtoSP” TypeName=”*”/>

13. Change the

<trust level=”WSS_Minimal” originUrl=”” /> line to <trust level=”WSS_Medium” originUrl=””/>

Add the following line under the <PageParserPath> section:

<PageParserPath VirtualPath=”/*” CompilationMode=”Always” AllowServerSideScript=”true” IncludeSubFolders=”True” />

Change MaxControls Value from 200 to 800

For viewing the errors set

debug=”on”
callStack=”True”
customErrors mode=”off”

14. Open your site in SharePoint Designer and drag and drop your SamplePage.aspx page into a folder in your site.

Or you can also deploy these pages to one of the SharePoint web application as a feature.

For this you need to write one feature.xml and module.xml and install using stsadm utility.

15. Browse to your page E.g.

http://moss.litwareinc.com/TestApp/TestPages.aspx

16. You should now have your aspx page running in SharePoint.

One great thing about this option is that you could build your applicaiton outside of SharePoint with any old MasterPage, then deploy to SharePoint and swap out the masterpage string for the correct one.  Thus being able to develop and debug outside of SharePoint and then deploy and test inside SharePoint.

A note on debugging:  If you want to debug your code once it is running inside SharePoint then all you need to do is attach the Visual Studio debugger to the correct w3wp.exe process (Debug -> Attach to process), set your break points and then hit your page in a browser.

Pros:
-
Simple development experience. Develop outside SharePoint first if desired.
- You get a design surface to build you UI.

-
Deployment reasonably straight forward, can be deployed as a feature packaged in a solution package.

Cons:
-
Slightly different deployment of User Control files and assemblies ( a .bat file can be used for easy deployment) during development.

5. Using Page Viewer Web Part:

We can use Page viewer Web part available out of box with SharePoint.
In this approach, the asp. Net application runs independent of SharePoint , so we can’t get current logged in user for SharePoint

The only way to get currently logged in user in web part and pass it as query string to asp.net page, parse this query string in aspx pages.

The out of box Web parts doesn’t allow us to pass logged in query string, for this you need to create a wrapper for page viewer web part.

Pros:
- Easier development
- Web part can be deployed as a solution package
- No need to make any change in existing ASP.Net application

Cons:
- The pages don’t inherit the security and access rules from SharePoint.
- ASP.Net application runs independent of SharePoint, needs to be hosted on a web server.

Conclusion

The best approach to be used depends upon your requirements. In our experience the best way is to add aspx pages to sharepoint uasing asp.net web application. In this way it can be easily deployed and removed as and when required.

SharePoint Hosting - ASPHostPortal :: Creating Applications Using SharePoint

clock May 15, 2010 08:38 by author Jervis

Clients often contact us with the need for Corporate Portal or Website. Usage of Microsoft SharePoint platform is one of the easiest and convenient ways to solve their tasks. In the article we’ll try to briefly describe the powerful tool for creating the similar solutions.
Microsoft SharePoint is a web-oriented platform for collaboration and documents management. The solution can be used to create different web-sites with shared documents or dedicated applications (i.e. Wiki, blogs, forums). SharePoint functionality is presented to the User by control elements that display the data which can also be edited. Such webparts are placed on pages which in turn are placed on the Portal and are available to the User via browser.

If you’re looking for MOSS, you can contact us at ASPHostPortal. ASPHostPortal will give you many benefits. Hosting plans started from only $ 5.00/month. So, don’t think too long!

1. Windows Sharepoint Services

Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) – is a platform for deployment and content management by Microsoft. WSS has the following features:
- is a basis of files and folders;
- gives basic option for information search;
- gives content management system;
- management of access rights definition;
- gives an option for webpart extension.

After the application deployment the standart or customized webparts can be used. Blogs, private address books, documents store websites, internet shops, news websites, pages with audio and video players can be easily created with the help of the applications. All the above functionality can also be combined on the single portal. Our developers can alter any website component per your requirements.
The Lists can be set up to display various document types in different views as per the User's specific tasks. Microsoft SQL Server is used as DBMS for applications based on SharePoint.

2. Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) is the best component for integration SharePoint functionality into MS Office applications. It expands Windows SharePoint Services with new options. If a document have to be saved as parts of web-applications, the solution to use is MOSS. Client Office applications (including Word, Excel, Outlook, InfoPath) can be easily used in composition of Corporate solutions, build on SharePoint. All MOSS functions can be extended by our developers for a wide range of products realization: from the simple web-panels to the complex web-applications.

Sharepoint Advantages
SharePoint products and technologies give the wide range of advantages not only for developers, but also for separate users and organizations of any level:

- Full functionality of the portal right after the installation
All SharePoint Server options are available right after the installation. Though the set of Server options is wider and includes news, catalogues, topic areas, private web-sites- “my site”, supposed audience selection, tools for searching and viewing employees, work groups and information as well as web-sites creation that gives the necessary structure for building a single workspace.  SharePoint is based on Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, that is why tools of Windows SharePoint Services for co-working will be available at once.

- Performance and scalability
SharePoint Server supposes the following flexible means of deployment that provides distributed structure and optimal work of the portal: SharePoint supports server farms creation with distributed task servers, database severs, search option and option of indexation by different external services. Shared Services could provide from the single center and employ on the several portal farms the services like search or support of private web-sites.  Besides SharePoint Server can serve up to 1,000,000 Users simultaneously registered in Active Directory, and it has capacity of 250 pages per second.

- Private sites (“My sites” section)
Private site is a site which may have a private view where User stores data inaccessable to others, i.e. unfinished documents, private pieces of news and weblinks; and a general view where data for other Users is stored, i.e. presentations or finished reports. Information in the general view of private sites can be indexed by Administrator with the help of catalogue services, i.e. Active Directory, which provides Users with an option to search for the information and examples to help them complete their tasks, within all the company.
Single signon system
Singe signon allows the users to receive personal data from any system part with just a single login to the system. When Users login the portal, SharePoint saves User data in a secure place. When the portal applications require information from other business-applications, i.e. system of planning company resourses, CRM system of third-party providers, SharePoint uses User data with verifying them in Active Directory. So the User doesn’t need to login into external business-application.

- Flexibility, personalization, adaptation of web-component based pages.
SharePoint provides additional web-components and flexible means of their management, which allow Users to set up portal pages in the necessary way with simple drag-and-drop of the components to the page. In Microsoft Office FrontPage there is a complete support of web-components and web-component based pages including adding, editing and setting up of web-components, web-components zone and differents web-component pages;

- Subject parts
SharePoint provides for subject sorting, which is highly intuitive when searching for survey of random data from documents and people information to web-sites on base of Windows. A document or link can be refered to several subjects, subject parts may contain documents stored in SharePoint, as well as links to the information from outher sources. Management policy has hierarchical distributed structure that allows experts in this field to create and maintain the most favourable parts.

- Active Directory untegration with Microsoft Office products
SharePoint scan through Active Directory catalogues, gathering User data. Users can manage information about them in the portal and get alerts when other Users publish or change information.
SharePoint makes Users’ work more comfortable regardless of the application they use. The User can create and maintain web-sites, i.e. website of the document working area, add news and events to SharePoint web-sites on the portal and get alerts with the help of web-browser.

- Search
SharePoint allows Users to search by key words in the whole text and in the document properties. Users can search for not only the information, but also other people, work groups and web-sites of the portal.

- Key features of Windows SharePoint Services
Private websites, workgroup websites and subject areas of the SharePoint portal has all the features of Windows SharePoint Services document libraries, supporting version alert, simple routing and confirmation mechanism. Users can check in and check out documents or return to previous document versions using their usual applications.
SharePoint provides a wide range of calendar events, advertisements, links, tasks and also an option to define new lists (which serves as a flexible tool for different tasks solving). Additionally SharePoint provides with web-sites creation, uses meeting web-sites and document workspace right from the applications of Microsoft Office group. The websites created with the help of checked templates make it easier to conduct discussion and meetings, improving co-working of the work groups and companies.
Besides SharePoint provides a list of additional facilities:

a. Has a custom design option;
b. Has an option of IE, FireFox, Safari, Opera browsers usage;
c. Has wide  options of User rights distribution;
d. Has a high safety level of the data transfer.

3. Creating Applications Using Sharepoint

Process of web-application development using SharePoint is similar to the process of application development using more traditional means (i.e. PHP).  Nevertheless, product development stage goes much faster and as a result cheaper to the Client.
Simplified process of web-applications creation with the use of SharePoint can be given with the following set of actions:

- SharePoint deployment and web-site creation by default;
- After Windows SharePoint Services deployment the web-site is created by default;
- Web-sites collection for the application with a template is created by default;
- Then there is a creation of the necessary types, lists and user groups;
- User rights are defined for the lists. The full safety of User information is provided.
- Necessary application components (i.e. wikis, blogs, calendars, etc.) are added and set up.
- Web-site interface is setup per Client’s wishes.

Using the action sequence, our developers can shortly create  web-applications starting from Corporate web-sites to internet-portals with wide functionality.
Note: SharePoint is a powerful tool which enables creation of web-sites and a big number of applications that use.
